Art is meant to be seen and enjoyed and a donation to USD 428 from the Bill J. McKown Endowment will help make that possible.
Shannon Wedel, USD 428 elementary art teacher, recently accepted a check from Chet Cale, Barton County Arts Council president, to purchase art display panels for student artwork.
McKown was an artist and a longtime member of the local art group. Golden Belt Community Foundation distributes money from the endowment.
The $1,641 gift is earmarked to buy two high-quality art panels to use during the district’s annual Watching Young Artists Grow K-8 Student Art Show.
“The BCAC has sponsored our show for 17 years,” Wedel said. “The panels will assist the elementary and middle school art teachers in displaying the work of our students for the community.”
The annual student art show is sponsored by BCAC and hosted each spring by the Barton County Historical Society at the museum.
