Once a month, a selected group of students from St. Joseph School visits the residents of Woodhaven Care Center. The students entertain the residents in a number of ways from reading with them one-on-one to leading them in games of BINGO to interacting individually with a variety of board or card games.
In September, the second and third grade students performed a Reader’s Theatre and left the residents a flag door decoration. In October, kindergarten and first graders read books to the residents and left them colored pictures. In November, fourth hand fifth grade students played Bingo with the residents and provided colored pictures as prizes. Finally, in December, the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students took along a variety of games such as checkers, UNO, Yahtzee, cards, and memory to play with the residents. The students also presented the residents with snowman ornaments.
“Students and residents alike enjoy the break in routine the visits provide,” said St. Joseph School Principal Marlene Clayton. “We all are looking forward to continuing our monthly visits in the new year.”
