Sterling College Homecoming begins Oct. 22

Sterling College Warriors will make their way back to their Alma Mater beginning Thursday, Oct. 22, to begin the 2015 homecoming festivities, many of which the community are invited to attend. That night the curtain in Culbertson Auditorium will open at 8 p.m. to begin the musical “9 to 5.” Registration, tickets and additional information for all Homecoming events can be found at sterling.edu/homecoming.
Sterling College Alumni can register for events in the Alumni Center on Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23, from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Community members are encouraged to participate in all events and can pay any required entrance fees at each event. Friday will include an Alumni Back-to-School Class, Legacy Day, the opening reception for the Alumni Art Show, the Homecoming Welcome Reception, the Alumni Banquet and Awards Dinner, and the Warrior Golf Tournament. The four-man scramble golf tournament is open to the public; proceeds will benefit the Sterling College Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams.
The community is invited to line Broadway on Saturday morning for the return of the Homecoming parade at 9:45 a.m. and join the Homecoming Hangout from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on East Cooper Lawn. The Hangout, a  free event, will include bounce houses, a petting zoo, music, games for kids, and an appearance of the SC Cheer Squad. Lunch, provided by Chartwells dining service, will be available for $8 for ages 9 to adult and $3.50 for ages 8 and under.
Saturday will also include men’s and women’s soccer games against Bethel College, a football game against Ottawa University, alumni basketball games, and the Sterling College Fine Arts Hall of Fame Pre-Show Recognition. This year’s inductee into the Fine Arts Hall of Fame is the late Windell D. Middlebrooks ‘02.
Another local favorite for Saturday, the annual Pancake and Sausage Feed to benefit the Lady Warriors Basketball Team, has moved to the First United Methodist Church this year. Taking place from 7:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., tickets can be purchased for $6 in advance or at the door for $7 per person ages 10 and up. Prices for those under 10 are based on age, $0.25 per year. Advance tickets can be purchased from a women’s basketball player, K.C. Bassett, or the Athletic Department office.
“9 to 5” will run Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m. and have a matinee performance on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketleap or at the Sterling College Box Office during show week from 1-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Saturday hours are 1-8 p.m., and Sunday box office hours are 1:30-2:30 p.m.
There will be reunions for the classes ending in 5’s and 0’s from 1955-2005, the Golden Club Reunion, the Highland Singers, Young Alumni and former players and friends of Jim Chroust. Reunions will meet at various times and locations; details can be found at sterling.edu/reunions.
