Santa was seen doing a load of laundry last Saturday, Dec. 17, at Discount Laundry, 924 Jefferson St. While it’s true that even Santa does laundry, he was helping United Way of Central Kansas continue the Laundry Love program, where volunteers wash up to five loads of dirty clothes per family that comes for the service on the third Saturday of each month.

“Even Santa does laundry,” said sponsors of Great Bend’s Laundry Love program. With that in mind, the monthly event that began in August continued on Saturday, Dec. 17.

“Since we started the Laundry Love program in Barton County, we have done 606 loads of laundry for 102 families in Barton and Pawnee counties,” said Becca Maxwell, president of United Way of Central Kansas. The area United way brought the program to the Golden Belt.

Laundry Love is held on the third Saturday of every month, when families are invited to bring their dirty clothes to Discount Laundry at 924 Jefferson St., where they can wash up to five loads free of charge. That includes free soap, fabric softener and drier sheets, as well as change for the washers and dryers.

Volunteers from Barton County LHEAT brought the holiday cheer to this month’s event. The next one will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Discount Laundry, 924 Jefferson St.
