Felony theft charges have been filed against former Great Bend Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Cris Collier, Barton County Attorney Amy Mellor said Thursday afternoon.

The complaint, filed in Barton County District Court, alleges that between the end of July 2012 and the middle of January 2015, Crystal Jo Collier stole money or property valued between $25,000 and $100,000, and deceived the CVB in the process of doing so. In a second charge, it is alleged Collier wrote out a check stub that falsely stated the amounts of money spent during a period of time and the reasons why the money was spent.

Mellor said both charges are felonies under Kansas law. The charges came after a Kansas Bureau of Investigation probe requested by the Great Bend Police Department.

Collier appeared in Barton County District Court Thursday with her attorney Dennis Keenan. Collier was advised of the charges and the possible penalty for each.

A preliminary hearing will be scheduled at a later date, Mellor said. Collier is out on bond.

Collier led the CVB for 30 years. She retired in December 2015.
