Excursions offered at biking/walking master plan kickoff

A kickoff presentation is planned for the Barton County Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, 592 NE K-156. There will be an open house from 6-6:30 p.m., with the presentation at 6:30 p.m.
RDG Planning and Design, consultants for the master plan, will explain the goals of the plan and possibilities for active transportation in Great Bend, Hoisington, Ellinwood and Claflin.
At 7 p.m., attendees are invited to participate in one of the following excersions:
• Road Bike Ride - Golden Belt Bicycle’s Neil Frizell will lead a skinny tire ride from KWEC and return bikers to the same location before dark.
• Mountain Bike Ride - Golden Belt Bicycle’s Claire Schmitt will lead a fat tire, gravel ride from KWEC and return before dark.
• Nature Trail - Janel Rose with the Barton County Health Department will lead a stroll around the quarter-mile paved loop on the west end of the KWEC parking lot. It’s wheelchair accessible and has benches along the trail.
