The Barton County Fair Association announced 2020 will be mostly conducted online, making it a “Virtual A-Fair.” Its updated website, bartoncountyfair.com, outline some virtual contests and other activities.
“With the changes in our lives, also come changes in the way the fair will look this year,” sponsors said. “After spending 10 months planning, organizing and scheduling events, the fair association had to put on the brakes and re-evaluate the situation not only for exhibitors, but for the safety of the public and volunteers as well.”
Each day they are adding new activities and competitions to the website.
Open Class entries are being accepted now. People who bring out a food, garden, art or woodworking exhibit each year to be judged will still be able to do so, but they may also be joined by some newcomers who have never had a chance to enter an exhibit in the fair, until now.
Each class has its own set of rules but this year there are additional instructions to help entrants showcase their exhibits. The virtual instructions were established to help in the presentation of projects, which will enhance the virtual experience and allow the judge an across-the-board standard when judging the exhibits. And instead of pre-entering an exhibit, participants can enter and upload all at the same time.
How to enter
Here’s how to enter. Go to bartoncountyfair.com; click on Open Class in the upper right-hand corner of the page; click on Open; click on the button that describes you exhibit. Read the rules, pick a class and review the virtual instructions. When you have your exhibit ready, fill out the registration form, upload the required pictures/video and click on Submit. You will receive a confirmation e-mail of your entry.
After the exhibits are judged the winners will be posted on the website and in the Sunday, July 12 edition of the Great Bend Tribune.
The board wanted to focus on the things it could do, and not so much on the things that it can’t do. Therefore the focus is on fun, safe events to celebrate fair week July 8-12.
