Fair wraps up Sunday
slt-lambs-steeleII

Sunday is the final day of the Barton County Fair, not counting the all-day tear down, cleanup and storage that will take place Monday at the Expo Complex. The commercial exhibits cleared out of Expo I Saturday evening, making room for the annual 4-H BBQ, opening Sunday morning at 11:30.
Donna Krug from the K-State Extension office in Barton County noted that the barbecue will offer a drive-through service as well as seating in Expo I.
On July 1, Krug became the first district director of the K-State Research and Extension’s new Cottonwood District, which combines Barton and Ellis counties. The current staff members are still employed at their local counties and it’s fair time in both counties.
One thing that was handled a bit differently this year in Barton County was the 4-H Clothing, Fiber Arts & Fashion Revue. This is always a “pre-fair” event, with judging at Trinity Lutheran Church and a public fashion show at the Crest Theater, but this year the Crest was unavailable because of problems with the air conditioning. The early fashion show moved to the church.
However, the public also gets to see a version of the fashion show at the fair, and that was done Friday evening on the Free Stage in Expo II. For the first time, Krug invited local stores to provide additional fashion pieces for the 4-Hers to model. It was a positive experience, Krug said. “I think we’ll do it again.”
