Winnie, Pooh and Piglet, the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo’s young grizzly bears, and senior grizzly Max will soon prepare for hibernation, so the timing couldn’t be better for Saturday’s Great Bend Zoological Society membership drive. Here, Piglet, the female, gestured for more, prompting visitor Todd Sherman to oblige by slinging a chunk of fruit over the fence.
Zoo Director Sara Hamlin and volunteers were on hand to answer questions about bears and membership, and to assist the public as they catapulted chunks of apple and orange for the eager bears from a large slingshot. Zoological Society members are invited to this and similar events throughout the year. Memberships renew on an annual basis and can be purchased year round at the zoo. The Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo is open year-round, and there is never an admission charge for visitors.
