LARNED – One Larned resident was slightly injured and their second floor apartment in a downtown Larned business a total loss following a Friday afternoon fire, Larned Fire Department Lt. Antonio Hearn said.

Hearn said the LFD and Larned Emergency Medical Services were called to the 100 block of West Fifth Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. It was reported that an electrical line in the alley behind building was down and that one person was injured.

The apartment resident suffered minor injuries and was transported to Pawnee Valley Community Hospital. No one else was hurt in the blaze.

Crews from the City of Larned addressed the power line problem. The heat from the fire is thought to have caused the line to fall.

In addition to the apartment being destroyed, there was smoke and water damage to the downtown business. The fire was contained to the one building.

The fire was declared under control by 2 p.m., but firefighters were on the scene until about 4:30 p.m.

Hearn said the cause remains undetermined.
