Forensics season has successful start

Makinna Dykes, Kenna Dirks, Jordan Otten, Aaron Miller, Ashtin Heath, Kris Gieck, Coach Barbara Watson, Jesus Sandoval and Malia Clark

The Great Bend High School Forensics Team traveled to Kiowa Kansas to attend the South Barber Invitational Speech Tournament, on Jan. 25th. The team placed 2nd among 14 teams. Eight students competed at the Kiowa – South Barber tournament. Five students qualified for finals.  Aaron Miller placed 2nd in Humorous Solo Acting and qualified to the State Speech Tournament in May, Kenna Dirks placed 3rd in Serious Solo Acting, Makinna Dykes placed 5th with her Original Oration and Jesus Sandoval placed 1st with his and qualified to the State Speech Tournament. In Poetry Makinna Dykes placed 6th and in Duet Acting Kris Gieck and Jesus Sandoval placed 5th. Malia Clark, Ashtin Heath and Jordan Otten also competed in Poetry and Serious Solo Acting and helped contribute to the team’s sweepstakes.  
On Feb. 15, the Great Bend Speech Team is hosting their own Invitational Tournament at the High School. Rounds will be at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and finals will be at 1:30 p.m.. Those interested in judging can call (620) 793-1521 and ask for extension 201 or Mrs. Watson’s room.
