Former Ellinwood teacher receives probation

A former Ellinwood teacher has been placed on probation after pleading "no contest" to attempted electronic solicitation of a child under 16 years old.

Seth Lee Converse Stevens was an Ellinwood teacher in 2009, when he used his cell phone to text inappropriate messages to a 15-year-old girl. During the hearing where Stevens waived his right to a trial and entered his plea, the Barton County Attorney’s Office presented evidence that the text message was sexual in nature.

Stevens must register as a sex offender for the next 25 years and is to have no contact with the victim. He moved to Missouri after posting bond, but is listed under supervision of Central Kansas Community Corrections on the Kansas Department of Corrections website. He is listed on the Missouri sexual offender website, which shows he resides in Lake Waukomis, Mo.
