A contractor was direct-boring beneath 10th St. when the equipment struck a gas line, Thursday afternoon.
Great Bend Fire/EMS and the Great Bend Police Department were on the scene around 3:20 p.m. They have 10th Street closed from Taft to McKinley, and are advising drivers to avoid this area. They have also evacuated Fastenal and High Call Outfitters stores.
Will update as more information comes in.

Update

At 5:15 p.m., gas crews got the gas leak turned off, the Great Bend Fire/EMS, and the Great Bend Police Department reopened three lanes on 10th St. The eastbound lane is still closed, and will be closed until gas crews can get the leak repaired.
