Four Great Bend High School speech students competed at the Kinsley’s speech tournament on Saturday. They include Patrick Heath, Jalyn Lear, Geoffrey Pafford and Bailey Sandy. Heath placed fourth in Humorous Solo Acting and fifth in Informative Speaking; Lear placed third in Serious Solo Acting and sixth in Impromptu Speaking and Sandy placed second in Original Oration Speaking and first in Serious Solo Acting. Bailey Sandy said, “Qualifying for the State Championship Tournament so early in the season is a great feeling, now I can concentrate on making my pieces better without the stress of qualifying for state.”
The team placed fourth overall out of 17 schools and 130 entries. Coach Barbara Watson said that was very impressive considering GBHS did not bring a full entry and eight schools brought twice as many students to the tournament.
