GBHS Speech Squad competes at tournaments

Part of the Great Bend High School Speech Team competed at the Pratt Speech Tournament on Saturday, April 1. Ashtin Heath and Aaron Miller competed in three individual events each and placed in all of them. Heath placed first in Impromptu Speaking and Original Oration and second in Serious Solo Acting. Miller placed second in Impromptu Speaking, third in Original Oration and third in Humorous Solo Acting.
Others competed at the Cimarron Speech Tournament on the same weekend. Patrick Heath, Madison Jones and Donovan Paden all placed.
Patrick Heath placed third in Poetry Interpretation and Jones and Paden placed second in Duet Acting. This qualifies all three students for the State Speech Championship tournament on Saturday, May 6.


The team has 14 events qualified for state now and 16 is a full entry, GBHS Speech Coach Barbara Watson said.
The squad is also preparing to host the NSDA (National Speech and Debate Association) District National Qualifying Speech Tournament April 21 and 22. If anyone is interested in judging contact Watson at the high school, 793-1521 extension 1201.
“The team has to get three times as many judges for this tournament,” Watson said. “We would really greatly appreciate anyone helping us out by judging.”
