At the Sterling Speech Tournament Great Bend High School first year speech students, Garrett Dykes, Geoffrey Pafford and Bailey Jones, all placed in their events. Garrett Dykes qualified for state again in Humorous Solo Acting.
The Great Bend Speech Team will be hosting their Speech Tournament at Great Bend High School on Saturday, Feb. 27th. The first round starts at 8 a.m., followed by rounds at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. The team must host a tournament in order for the students to be allowed to compete in more tournaments. People from the community are needed to judge. Anyone who might be interested in judging at the tournament is encouraged to call Great Bend High School at 793-1521, extension 1201, and ask for Barbara Watson. A judge would watch about six acting performances or speeches that students have written and memorized and then place them first through sixth, write some comments on the students ballots of what they did well on and what they need to work on. Six students come in individually to perform and entertain the judge. GBHS students do not compete because they help run the tournament. This is an opportunity to see what GBHS Speech students do at speech tournaments and allow them to compete in more tournaments.
