At the Medicine Lodge Speech Tournament on Feb. 12, the Great Bend High School Speech Team qualified three more events to state. Becca Kay qualified to state in Original Oration by placing 2nd in the event. Hadley Murphy qualified in both Original Oration and Serious Solo Acting by placing 1st in both of the events. Sara Allen placed 6th in Original Oration and Becca Kay placed 5th Serious Solo Acting. “The team only brought four students and still placed 4th overall in sweepstakes out of 13 schools which is very impressive.” stated GBHS speech coach Barbara Watson.
The team competed in the Hutchinson Tournament on February 14th.  Hadley Murphy placed 2nd in Poetry Interpretation qualifying her event to state and she placed 4th in Original Oration and Ashtin Heath placed 6th in Humorous Solo Acting. There were over 300 entries competing at the very competitive tournament.
The GBHS team will be hosting their own tournament on Saturday February 28, and they still need adults from the community to act as judges. Anyone interested in judging may contact Barbara Watson at the high school, (620) 793-1521 extension 201.
