GBHS Speech Team qualifies one to nationals

The District National Qualifying Speech tournament was held at Bethel College in Newton on April 17 and 18. Eight students competed and placed 7th in sweepstakes out of 14 schools. Three students advanced to the elimination rounds. Sophomore, Hadley Murphy, was a semifinalist in Original Oration. Sophomore, Ashtin Heath and Junior, Malia Clark, advanced to Finals in Dramatic Interpretation. Malia Clark placed 5th and Ashtin Heath placed 4th qualifying her to Nationals. Ashtin Heath will compete at the national tournament in Dallas, Texas, June 13th through June 19th.
Ashtin stated, “We all had a lot of fun and became closer as a team. Everyone did their best, we all did very well and had a lot of fun.”
Mrs. Watson had this to say, “We wish Ashtin good luck at Nationals. The whole team has done well all season.”
The squad has qualified a full entry of 16 entries for the State Speech Championship Tournament held at Topeka Seamen High School on May 2nd.
