Eighteen Great Bend High School scholars participated in the 40th annual Fort Hays State University Math Relays on Thursday, Nov. 8. Approximately 590 participants from 45 schools competed at this annual event.
In Using Number Sense, the 11th-grade team Chris Schenk, Alex Schremmer and Allen To placed 6th and the 12th-grade team Nolan Barton, Marcus Schmeidler and Aaron Stein placed 3rd. Individually, sophomore Cal Dunekack placed 6th and junior Daniel Abbott placed 9th.
In the Trigonometry event the 12th-grade team Liz Linenberger, Marcus Schmeidler and Aaron Stein placed 8th. Individually, junior Daniel Abbott placed 2nd and senior Malachi Williams placed 2nd.
In Algebraic Manipulations, the 10th-grade team of Jaime Arellanes, Cal Dunekack and Will Linenberger placed 3rd and the 11th-grade team of Daniel Abbott, Chloe Gibson and Jesus Sanchez placed 2nd. Individually, junior Alex Schremmer placed 8th.
In the Informal Geometry Measurement event the 9th-grade team of Esten Moore, Gabriella Reyes and Amy To placed 3rd and the 11th-grade team of Daniel Abbott, Sayra Solis and Allen To placed 4th. In the individual portion of that event, sophomores Cal Dunekack placed 6th and Will Linenberger placed 4th.
In Applications of Algebra, the 10th-grade team of Jaime Arellanes, Cal Dunekack and Will Linenberger placed 5th and the 11th-grade team of Jesus Sanchez, Chris Schenk and Alex Schremmer placed 10th. Individually, senior Marcus Schmeidler placed 7th.
In Calculations with Calculators the 11th-grade team of Chloe Gibson, Jesus Sanchez and Chris Schenk placed 3rd and the 12th-grade team of Nolan Barton, Liz Linenberger and Malachi Williams placed 10th. In the individual portion, freshman Esten Moore placed 6th and junior Allen To placed 2nd.
As a school, Great Bend High School received a trophy for 3rd place in the 4A-5A-6A division of the contest. The students were accompanied by Tina Hiss, sponsor.
