A traffic stop by the Great Bend Police Department last Monday night resulted in an arrest for drug violations and a search warrant that led to the recovery of additional drugs and drug paraphernalia, Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark said.
At about 10:35 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, officers with the Great Bend Police Department conducted a traffic stop near 2500 block of Railroad Avenue for a traffic infraction. During the stop, K9 Menta was deployed to conduct a free air sniff, where she alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics, he said.
While searching the vehicle, officers located approximately 37 grams of a methamphetamine/ fentanyl mix, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The driver of the vehicle, John Wilkinson, 60, was placed under arrest for distribution of methamphetamine/fentanyl, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
Then, at about 3:52 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, officers with the GBPD served a search warrant in the 700 block of Jefferson Street based on the previous traffic stop. Located during the search warrant was methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
