Great Bend USD 428 classes will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, and there will be no school Oct. 18-21.
The Great Bend Recreation Commission has a few programs for those days school is not in session, said Garet Fitzpatrick, program coordinator.
Half a day of spooky crafts for ages 6-12 will be held from 1-5 p.m. on Thursday at the GBRC Activity Center. Students will spend the afternoon making some fun Halloween crafts.
Trash To Treasures Day Out for ages 6-12 will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. Students will travel to the Kansas Wetlands Education Center to learn how and why to recycle, and will make crafts from recycled materials. “We’ll be doing everything from playing games to making our own paper,” Fitzpatrick said.
Also on Friday, GBRC will offer American Red Cross Baby-sitters Training from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Great Bend Recreation Center, 1214 Stone St. This course is designed to give students 11-15 years old the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for infants through school-aged children.
Pre-registration is required for all classes. Register at the GBRC office, 1214 Stone St. For more information call 793-3755 ext. 2 or email recreation@gbrc.kscoxmail.com.
