Barton Community College’s Center for Adult Education will soon start its nine-week GED Preparation Class.
Barton will offer two sessions for orientation: 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 1025 Main St. in Great Bend. Orientation classes are the first step to obtaining a GED and are required before official preparation courses can be taken. Those interested will need to call before Friday, Jan. 12.
Pre-testing is now required. The testing helps the instructors learn where each student is at on a spectrum so they can best tailor lesson plans to the students’ needs. Students should allow for an entire morning or afternoon to take the tests. There is no fee for the pre-test.
Regular coursework begins Jan. 31.
There is a one-time $65 fee for materials. Once students have completed the preparation courses, they will be able to take the official GED test. The cost to take the GED test is $132.
Individuals who are interested in taking the GED exam without any preparation instruction can do so right away but are urged to receive advising before moving forward.
Students must bring a valid ID. Minors must bring a parent or legal guardian to enroll and must also bring their disclaimer or exemption documentation from their high school or online program.
