HAYS – Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland troops will welcome new and returning girls and volunteers with back-to-school bashes this month. The following events are open to all girls, and adults are encouraged to accompany their daughters, said Nancy Haney, area spokesman.
• St. John Pool, 6 to 8 p.m., Aug. 17
• Great Bend First United Methodist Church, “Frozen in August,” 6 to 8:30 p.m., Aug. 28
• Ness City Scout House, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Aug. 28
• Larned Scout House, 2 to 4 p.m., Aug. 30
Girl Scouts has levels for girls in grades K through 12. In Girl Scouts, the all-inclusive leadership development organization for girls, members discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together, sponsors said. Through enriching experiences – including field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges and environmental stewardships – girls grow courageous and strong.
