Great Bend Community Theatre’s production of “On Golden Pond” opens at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Crest Theater, 1905 Lakin Ave. Nightly shows continue through Feb. 18 and there will be a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on Feb. 19.

“On Golden Pond” is a 1979 play by Ernest Thompson. The plot focuses on aging couple Ethel and Norman Thayer, who spend each summer at their home on a lake called Golden Pond. During the year the story takes place, they are visited by daughter Chelsea with her fiancé Billy Ray and his son Billy Ray Jr. The play explores the often turbulent relationship the young woman shared with her father growing up, and the difficulties faced by a couple in the twilight years of a long marriage.

This play is directed by David Burdett, who graduated from Kansas State with a Bachelor of Science in performance arts. It’s a beautiful and surprisingly witty show, sponsors said.

The cast members are Maverick Mundan, Marcus Mull, Grady Bolding, Madison Hembree, John Sturn and Dallas Arp.

Doors will open an hour before showtime.
