The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce would like to invite Chamber members and the community to a special ribbon cutting this evening commemorating the Chamber’s centennial anniversary. Join the City of Great Bend and Mayor Cody Schmidt as 2021 is officially proclaimed as the 100th Anniversary of the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce at 6 p.m. in Great Bend’s downtown Jack Kilby Square.

The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce was formed in May 1921 by a collective group referring to themselves as a “Booster for ‘A Greater Great Bend,’” said Chamber President Megan Barfield. Now, 100 years later with over 550 members, it continues to serve as the voice for businesses and growth.

“A chamber’s legacy will hold lasting value and impact when the chamber acts as the voice for positive growth and evolution, as well as for the overall economic prosperity of the communities we serve,” Barfield said. “What an exciting time to be here and the chamber is honored to play a vital role in the next 100 years of businesses and their successes through the fulfillment of our mission.”

She said the Chamber still promotes and serves. “We connect. We create opportunity. We convene, champion and act as a catalyst,” Barfield said.

“Chambers across the country believe that businesses are the heartbeat of every community and should be celebrated,” she said. Attending this event and being present for the photo at this moment in history will capture the community’s commitment to our business community for generations to come.

“The Great Bend Chamber’s Board of Directors are grateful for the dedication, ingenuity, and perseverance of local businesses in the face of so much adversity,” she said.
