A collision involving two vehicles resulted in the death of 92-year-old Glen Stricker of Great Bend Wednesday afternoon, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the crash at NW 40 Avenue and NW 110 Road at about 12:30 p.m. According to the sheriff, Stricker, driving a 1998 Buick Century, was northbound on NW 40 Avenue and was struck by a 2012 Dodge Charger operated by Colin Mater, age 15 of Olmitz, who was eastbound on NW 110 Road.

According to the BCSO investigation, Mater’s vehicle failed to stop for a stop sign and hit the Stricker vehicle. The crash occurred about a half mile north of the Boyd elevator.

Both vehicles continued into the eastern ditch and then the Stricker vehicle rolled one and a half times before coming to rest.

Stricker was pronounced dead at the scene by the Barton County Coroner’s Office.

Mater sustained minor injuries and was transported to Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington where he was treated and later released.

The roadway was closed for approximately 90 minutes while the crash was investigated. The BCSO was assisted at the scene by the Hoisington Fire Department/Emergency Medical Services, Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation.
