A Great Bend man died early this morning in a one-vehicle accident south of the intersection of 90 Road and 90 Avenue in west central Barton County, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.
According to Bellendir, Trevis Smith, 29, was southbound on 90 Avenue at about 6:30 a.m. Smith failed to stop at the stop sign and continued south.
The vehicle went through the west ditch and became airborne, landing in a field and rolling three times. The sheriff said it appears the accident occurred several hours before being discovered by a passing motorist.
The area of the accident was experiencing heavy fog at the time, which may have been a contributing factor, he said.
The accident is still under investigation by the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.
The BCSO was assisted at the scene by the Albert Fire Department, Great Bend Fire Department and the Great Bend Emergency Medical Services.
