Linh Reiter and her family recently returned from visiting Vietnam for the first time since she left in 1975.
The country is as beautiful as ever, and eager to welcome tourists. Many visitors, like Reiter, left Vietnam years ago.
After seeing a woman who was in her 80s trying to sell bananas in the marketplace, Reiter’s belief in America as the Land of Opportunity was stronger than ever. At that moment, she said, “My daughter took my hand and said, ‘Thank you.’”
“After 40 years, I was saddened to see how hard the average citizen has to work to make a modest living,” Reiter said. “It reaffirms what I have always believed: ‘Only in America’ can your hard work change your future.”
