Wildlife artist and juror of the “Choreography of Cranes” exhibit Peter Eades offers comments about the winning works of art at the show’s opening reception Sunday afternoon at the Shafer Art Gallery.

Eades chose Dodge City resident Mike Umscheid’s photograph “Sandhill Symmetry” for first place. Hoisington Resident Christina Lamoureaux’s “Trainweaver” (mixed media) and Ellinwood resident Robert Joy’s “Crane III” (mixed media) were chosen for second and third, respectively. “This gallery is top notch,” Eades said.

Guests at the Shafer Art Gallery’s opening reception for the “Choreography of Cranes” exhibit enjoy images of cranes and other waterfowl in many media, from paintings and sketches to sculptures Sunday afternoon.

“(Having a show dedicated to cranes) is just the neighborly thing to do, at the very least,” Gallery Director Dave Barnes said in reference to Barton Community College’s proximity to Cheyenne Bottoms.
