LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Alumni Association and Kansas Athletics will continue “Hawks & Highways,” a multi-year effort to host KU events in communities throughout Kansas. Great Bend’s events will be Oct. 1-2. The ongoing series supports Chancellor Douglas A. Girod’s goal to continue strengthening outreach throughout the state.

Great Bend activities include a “Hawks & Highways” happy hour with KU Alumni Association President Heath Peterson, Senior Associate Athletics Director Matt Baty and representatives from KU Admissions, KU Endowment and KU School of Social Welfare; a counselor appreciation luncheon and information night for prospective KU students and their families, hosted by Admissions; and a Kansas Honor Scholar ceremony, which recognizes area high school students who rank academically in the top 10 percent of their class.

“We’re thrilled to expand our University partnerships and bring even more events to Kansas communities this fall,” said Heath Peterson, KU Alumni Association president. “We have many loyal Jayhawks throughout the state, and this is a great way to connect with them and express our gratitude for their support.”

“Kansas Athletics looks forward to a great visit with our supporters and friends in Great Bend,” KU Athletics Director Jeff Long said. “Our alumni and fans are critical to our success, and we’re excited to share plans for our program in person.”
