HHS debate fourth at Moundridge

HOISINGTON — The Hoisington High School debate team went 8-2 and placed 4th at Moundridge recently, earning medals. Three of four Cardinal debaters were novice (first-year) competing on the varsity level. 

Miquala Purscell and Victoria Luttrell defeated two Wichita-Collegiate teams, and teams from Hutchinson-Trinity and Emporia. They lost to an Ellinwood team.  

Garrett Dykes and Payton Dykes defeated teams from Emporia, Wichita-Independent, Wichita-Collegiate and Valley Center. They lost to a Dodge City team. Tyler Reif and Brayden Copp were the alternates.

In other action at Regional Debate in Lyons recently, Miquala Purscell, Victoria Luttrell, Logan Hammeke and Kylie Miller placed fourth, missing qualifying for State Four-Speaker Debate by one place. Tyler Reif and Trevan Brown were the alternates.

The regular season is now over, but Garrett Dykes and Payton Dykes will compete at Two-Speaker State Debate in Fort Scott in January.
