James Morris, Hoisington Ward 3 City Council member, faced a unique situation in his reelection. He faced another council member who shares the same ward. Mike Davis had been appointed early this year to fulfill the unexpired term of Shirley Miller. Davis would have been up for reelection next year. Unfortunately, he ended up on the ballot running against Morris in Tuesday’s election. Mike Davis won by 3 votes.
According to Barton County Clerk Bev, Schmidler, Davis can accept the Tuesday night election results or he can reject them and remain as the Ward 3 representative with reelection next year. Whichever Davis chooses, Morris will have to seek appointment by the City Council to an open Ward 3 seat. “The runner-up does not move into the position,” Schmidler said. Hoisington City Manager Jonathan Mitchell anticipates seeking applications for the open Ward 3 seat.
