Hoisington debaters place at Hays

HOISINGTON — Hoisington High School debaters Victoria Luttrell and Miquala Purscell placed fourth out of 21 teams in the novice division and earned medals recently at Hays High. They defeated two Great Bend teams and teams from Hutchinson and Nickerson. They lost to a Dodge City team. 

Tyler Reif and Trevan Brown, also competing in the novice division, earned a 2-3 record and 13th place. They defeated two Junction City teams and lost to teams from Sterling, Larned, and Great Bend. 

Junior varsity debaters Samantha Colson and Kylie Miller moved up to varsity, competing in the open division.

In earlier action at Halstead, in the novice division, Miquala Purscell and Victoria Luttrell earned a 3-2 record and placed ninth out of 30. They defeated two McPherson teams and a team from Abilene. They lost to teams from Sacred Heart (Salina) and Lyons. 

In the open division at Halstead, Garrett Dykes and Logan Hammeke earned a 2-3 record by defeating teams from Campus (Haysville) and Clay Center, but losing to two McPherson teams and a team from Great Bend.

Tyler Reif was the alternate at Halstead. The team is coached by Marion Oborny.
