According to the Hoisington Police Department on March 4, formal charges of aggravated kidnapping were filed on Garrett Barnett after he was arrested by the Hoisington Police Department following two separate incidents that occurred late in the evening on Feb. 29, and into the early morning hours of March 1.
“The initial incident involving Barnett, which was later determined to be domestic violence related, occurred in the 400 block of East 4th Street, however it was not reported or discovered until officers came into contact with Barnett later in the day following a 911 report of a male subject possibly intoxicated,” Cpt. Josh Nickerson said
While being treated at Clara Barton Hospital for minor injuries Barnett became aggressive and combative with officers.
As a result a Hoisington Police Officer and a Hoisington Emergency Medical Technician were injured while taking Barnett into custody.
During the altercation a taser was deployed in an effort to prevent additional injuries to the officers, medical staff and Barnett.
In addition to the charge of aggravated kidnapping, stemming from the domestic violence incident, formal charges against Barnett also include three counts of criminal threat, two counts of domestic battery, battery of a law enforcement officer, battery, interference with law enforcement and disorderly conduct.
Currently Barnett is being held at the Barton County Jail on a $1,000,000.00 bond. This investigation is ongoing.
