Hoisington man dies in roll-over wreck
BCSO seal

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal single-vehicle rollover accident that occurred Monday evening northwest of Great Bend, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

The driver was identified as Cameron W. Burd, 25, of Hoisington. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

At approximately 5:10 p.m. BCSO deputies were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in the 400 block of Northwest 20 Avenue. Upon arrival officers located a green, 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser in the stubble field on the west side of the road.

The officers also located the driver who had been ejected. Burd was pronounced dead at the scene by the Barton County Coroner’s Office.

Investigation at the scene indicated Burd was northbound on Northwest 20 Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle and went into the west ditch, Bellendir said. The vehicle struck a field drive and continued north, entering the field on the west side of the road where the vehicle rolled four and a half times.

Bellendir said excessive speed was likley a contributing factor to the accident. It remains under investigation by the BSSO.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Great Bend Fire and Emergency Medical Service units, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Barton County Coroner’s Office.
