Fourth-grade students from Holy Family School went to the Santas Around the World display on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Sunday, Dec. 22, will be the final day of the season to catch Santa Claus at Santas Around the World, 1223 Main St. in Great Bend, before he leaves to prepare for the BIG Day. It will be open from 4-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 1-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
This time of year, a question usually arises about the Santas Around The World exhibit: are there 23 or 24 Santas in the exhibit? The answer is that there are 23 displays showcasing 24 Santas. That’s because one display, Pere Noel of France, includes two figures.
According to legend, Pere Noel provided gifts in wooden shoes left out by good children. His grouchy alter-ego, Pere Fouchette, left switches for bad boys and girls.
People can learn and experience even more Santa traditions from across the globe by touring the exhibit, now open to the public at 1223 Main Street. The multi-cultural Santas are a collection that span five years of work and artistry by Great Bend artist Loretta Miller. The life-sized Santas, represent countries and regions from around the world and they appear in a winter wonderland of lighted trees and festive holiday décor.
