ELLINWOOD — The Ellinwood City Council on Tuesday approved a contract with Jane Isern of the law firm Isern and Carpenter as the new Ellinwood City Attorney. The position was vacant due to the recent death of City Attorney Robert Peter. Chuck Pike will be the Municipal Judge.

At the December 2017 council meeting, the Chamber of Commerce discussed with city council the designing of a new promotional brochure for the Ellinwood area. Since then, the chamber has designed, ordered, and received the new brochures. The Council approved paying half the cost of the brochures, splitting the cost with the Ellinwood Chamber Office.

There will be a city-wide garage sale on Saturday, April 27. The Chamber made the council aware of that date so it will consider scheduling Ellinwood’s Clean-Up Week at that time or immediately following. No date has been set for the clean-up.

In 2017, the Legislature amended Cereal Malt Beverage laws to allow retailers with a CMB license to also sell beer containing not more than 6 percent alcohol by volume. This goes into effect on April 1. Cities must change their current CMB ordinances to allow for the sale of higher alcohol content beer. Council members reviewed and tabled this until the March meeting.

Recently, city staff has met with several of the owners of Animal Medical Center, whic currently provides services to the City for animals that are found at-large or are stray animals. Council approved a new agreement for kennel services and animal care.

A service 20-year service award will be presented Larry Clair at the Solid Waste Department. He was not present at Tuesday’s meeting.
