A fundraiser will be held for Jeannette Holopirek to help with her medical expenses. A pulled pork dinner will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Olmitz. Free will donations will be accepted at the dinner or can be mailed to Jeanette Holopirek Medical Fund c/o Farmers Bank & Trust NA, 1017 Harrison St., Great Bend, KS 67530. Matching funds will be provided by Thrivent Financial Services.
Holopirek is a 27-year-old Timken native who was first diagnosed with cancer of the sinuses in November 2002. She was declared free of cancer three years after the initial surgery, but the cancer returned a year later and she’s had to undergo radiation treatments approximately every year since. Her right eye was removed due to cancer in July and she will soon be spending two and a half months at the University of Indiana Proton Therapy Center in Bloomington, Ind. for treatment. She will be accompanied by her mother, Alice Holopirek of Timken.
