MARQUETTE — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Kanopolis Lake advises visitors that early spring lake elevations will be lower than in normal years. The spring lake level increase will be delayed in order to safely complete construction work which includes replacement of the service gates and inspection of earthen materials from the tower and upstream approach channel.
“Maintaining the lake elevation just below conservation pool allows us to more safely and more efficiently complete our construction work,” said Dan Hays, operations project manager. “As a result of maintaining the elevation lower than normal, downstream users will also notice releases from the outlet works to be higher than the seasonal average. It’s our goal for all recreational facilitates, such as boat ramps and the marina, to remain accessible. We are working to limit the inconvenience to visitors while honoring our water quality commitments. Additionally, spring rains may allow the lake elevation to rise to its seasonal target.”
