The Barton County Health Department will hold its Be Well Kids, Biking Barton County event from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday in the Health Department parking lot at 1300 Kansas Ave. in Great Bend. This is for children ages 5 to 12 years old only.
A limited number of bikes and helmets will be available on a first come, first served basis, starting at 5:30 p.m. with kids who are trading in bikes. Staff will fit bikes and helmets appropriate to age and size of child.
Also, county Health Educator Janel Rose said there will be bike safety training available. There will be hand-out information as well as a review of the basic bike safety rules.
All children must be accompanied by a parent to receive a bike or helmet, or to trade-in a bike. Participants can register for the second-annual Barton County Bike Caper and win Prizes.
In addition, Rose said this is also an opportunity for people to turn in bikes that are not being used. These will go to the Ellsworth Correctional Facility to be refurbished so they can be recirculated.
The event is sponsored by Barton County Health Department, Barton County Landfill, Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Barton County Sheriff’s Office.
