Friday was the last day of summer school for Great Bend USD 428. During the month, 201 elementary students attended classes at Riley, Park or Eisenhower.
Each day, they spent 40 minutes on math, 40 minutes on reading and 30 minutes on physical education, according to Andrea Bauer at the District Education Center.
They also had a project that involved researching the Olympics. For their final day of school, the students participated in their own Olympic games.
Students at Park and Eisenhower were transported to Veterans Memorial Park for a morning of outdoor activities.
Riley’s staff chose to stay in their own building for Olympic contests in the comfort of the air-conditioning. However, they moved outside later in the morning. The Great Bend Fire Department arrived with a water truck and sprayed the kiddos.
