The Quilting Bees
Members met on February 15 at the Presbyterian Church.  A welcome was given to new members Donna Parde, Larned and Donica Schumacher, Great Bend.  President Ann Hicks reminded members of the upcoming work day on Saturday, February 19 beginning at 9:00 a.m. and of the Quilter’s Celebration in June. Discussion was held on a possible display at the Jordaan Library in March for National Quilter’s month.  The purple fat quarters were won by Waneta Mausolf and cards were distributed listing the yearly month’s fat quarters.  Announcements included that over sixty prayer quilts have been made and given to those who need prayers for various critical conditions.
Show and Tell participants were: Ann Hicks, 6 quilt tops and backs; Diane Schultz, Valentine table runner and tote bag; Donica Schumacher, baby quilt top, Lavada Kraft, 2 quilt blocks and Civil War Chronicle block of the month pattern; Susan Gray, tote bag made from a cat food bag and a sunbonnet needle holder; Alice Clapsaddle, Christmas apron from a 50 year old vintage fabric and reversible place mats; Donna Parde, Welcome wall hanging with removable season blocks.
Ann Hicks demonstrated a new sampler quilt block. The next regular meeting will be on Tuesday, March 1 at the First Presbyterian Church, 8th and Morris, Larned.  Beginners are welcome.

Alpha Kappa Master
Glenna Melkus hosted the February 14 meeting.  President Alice Clapsaddle read a tribute from Beta Sigma Phi, International sorority, for Martha Jo Buster “The Stars Shine Through”.  Given in memory of Marty, signed by International and her local sorority chapter, the book will be presented to the family.  A thank you was extended to Rosie Rein for the Christmas Dinner/Party in December, to Connie Carlton for chairing the Valentine festivities, and to the social committee for the “Girls Night Out” at a local restaurant in January.  A thank you note was read from Glenna Melkus who is the 2010-2011 chapter queen.  The Beta Book drill was a review of committee duties and reports.
Committees included: Courtesy, 40th anniversary card to David and Alice Clapsaddle, and get well cards to Keith Melkus and David Clapsaddle; Social, a March social is being planned; Service, distribution of brick applications for the Doerr-Vernon Park and Splash Pad and members will work on Saturday, April 9.  The chapter will purchase one brick and individuals from the chapter will also purchase bricks.  New business included voting on International service projects and endowment funds.  Alice Clapsaddle and Connie Carlton were appointed to prepare a draft for attendance in a change of the standing rules to be voted on at the March meeting.
Glenna Melkus and Alice Clapsaddle presented the program “Enchanting/Romantic Ireland” which included pictures, clothing, and various articles of interest.  A Valentine quiz was won by Rosie Rein who missed the most questions.  A social hour followed the meeting and refreshments were served including Bewley’s tea from Dublin where poets and teachers from Trinity College congregated during the 19th century.  The March 14th meeting will be at the home of Wadonna King with Connie Carlton as co-hostess.  Ms Carlton will present the program.  An election of officers will be held.
