Flu shots Monday
for Welcome Inn

LARNED — Flu shots will be available at the Welcome Inn from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday.
Pawnee County Health Department staff will be providing this service and this clinic is open to anyone from the public.   
If you have recently become eligible for Medicare, please bring your card with you.  We also accept Medicaid, other insurance and private pay.  The department suggest short sleeves be worn.  You can download the consent form at www.pawneecountykansas.com.

Wednesday, Friday

LARNED — Walk-in clinics with no appointment for flu vaccine are being held every Wednesday and Friday at the Pawnee County Health Department.
The health department is located right inside the west door entrance of the courthouse 1st floor.  The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can download the consent form at:   www.pawneecountykansas.com.  
Flu vaccine is recommended for anyone 6 months of age and older.   Staff suggest you wear short sleeves.   Your wait is usually less than 10 minutes. Several presentations of flu vaccine are available such as Flu Mist and High Dose vaccine.  
After school walk-ins are welcome. Signed consent forms by parents for children under 18 years of age are required.  If coming into the clinic is difficult you can use the driveway on the west side of the courthouse and the nursing staff will come to your car.  Insurance cards will be needed.

Quilting Bees meet

LARNED — The Quilting Bees Guild met Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church with sewing at 5 p.m. and meeting starting at 7 p.m.
It was noted that Janis Fairchild did not win the prize for the State Fair anniversary block although she did enter and win various other projects.  Announcements included the Christmas Party Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m. with a potluck and an optional gift exchange, the Quilting Diva Sale on Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., a Quilt Show at the Dane Hanson Museum in Logan starting Oct. 23, and the upcoming workday on Oct. 12 beginning at 9 a.m.  
Discussion was held and the group decided to once again have the quilting meetings the first and third Tuesdays with workdays on designated Saturdays.
Ann Hicks announced a youth fundraiser for summer camp on Friday Oct. 25 from 5 until 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to the Soup Supper prior to the last Larned High School football game.  Donations accepted. Hicks also announced the March project for the 100th anniversary of the Jordaan Library will be a 12 ½ inch block using the anniversary theme. The general public is invited to participate.  Name and city are to be on the front of the block.
More information will be forthcoming in the next few months.  
Merlene Baird held a demonstration using a CD on “Threads, Bobbins, and Needles”. The next meeting will be on Oct. 15 with sewing at 5 p.m. and the meeting starting at 7 p.m.  The fat quarter drawing “Harvest Moon” will be awarded.
Show and Tell participants were:  Ann Hicks, several baby quilts, 4th of July quilt and Valentine wall hanging; Alice Clapsaddle, quilted “Santa” throw and a denim apron; Diann Morell, “Buzz Saw” quilt in purples and white constructed for the Welcome Inn, and three-lined receiving blankets in pink, blue and green patterned fabrics; and Colleen Wolf, “Boy” child’s quilt.

Wet-Dry Routes chapter
meeting set for Oct. 20

LARNED — The fall meeting of the Wet/Dry Routes Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association will meet on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. for a chicken noodle dinner at the Episicopal Church, 8th & Main, Larned.  
A business meeting and program will follow. There is a charge for the meal but the meeting at 1:45 p.m. is free.  Reservations for the dinner are being accepted by calling 285-3295.
