Quilting Bees meet

LARNED — The Quilting Bees Guild met July 16 in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church and for a workday on July 12.  
Members were encouraged to enter projects in the Pawnee County Fair on July 24. Members Colleen Wolf, Diann Morell, and Karen Hadley assisted in the quilting division at the Pawnee County Fair.
Debbie Smith was welcomed back as a returning member. A thank-you note was read from Melinda Axman.  Rita Shaller won the “red” fat quarter drawing. The fat quarter drawing will continue each month until the end of the year.
During the Show and Share time the following participants choose to share — Debbie Smith asked for advice on a UFO; Melvina Prescott, a quilt for her son’s wedding; Opal Macy, a “Dresden” block; and Colleen Wolf, “Maple Leaf” table topper.
The next meeting was scheduled Tuesday. Sewing began at 5 p.m and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Free event will help
mother’s enjoyment

LARNED —  The Pawnee County Health Department will sponsor a free event designed for women of all ages. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16th at the J.A. Haas Building, 400 E. 18th in Larned.
There will be special booths for pregnant women, women who are breastfeeding and women with young children ages birth to 5 years. There will be a mixture of educational, home décor, gifts, clothing, candles, jewelry and crafts. Infants and children are welcome.  
There will be many drawings including the Grand Prize: a rocker/recliner from Tabler Furniture valued at more than $500.

Larned city council
will meet Monday

LARNED — The Larned city council will meet in a special session at 6:30 p.m. Monday at city hall.
The council will conduct a public hearing on the 2015 proposed budget and review the Kansas Resource Housing Corporation Project.
