Halloween events scheduled
Larned and Rozel will stage Halloween events for children Wednesday.
• The Larned Kiwanis Club will sponsor Halloween at the Park from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the train depot in Schnack Park. Train rides, hot chocolate, s’mores and candy will be offered.
• The Father’s House, 221 E. 10th Street, will sponsor a Trunk or Treat beginning at 7 p.m.
• Larned HealthCare Center, 1114 W. 11th Street, will sponsor Trick or Treat from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
• ROZEL — The City of Rozel, Golden Valley Co-op and the Rozel Lions Club will sponsor Halloween events at the Rozel Fire Station from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Pop and hotdogs and other treats will be offered.
Chamber coffee set
LARNED — Clock Realty and Insurance, 615 Broadway, will be the site of the weekly Larned Chamber of Commerce coffee from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Candidate sets meeting
LARNED — Democrat Dennis McKinney, candidate for State Representative of the 117th District, has scheduled a public meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Scraps, 622 Broadway.
Shelter hours will change
LARNED — The Pawnee County Humane Society will schedule Tuesday hours from 6 to 8 p.m. instead of Thursday to avoid a conflict with the Humane Society’s meetings on Thursdays. It will free up the education room to allow potential adopters the space and time to get to know the dog or cat they are considering for adoption.
Weekday and Saturday hours remain the same, noon to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday.
The PCHS shelter is located at M5 Road and K-264, cares for stray, abandoned, neglected and surrendered dogs and cats in Larned, Pawnee County and nearby counties. Support is provided by donations and volunteers who care for the animals at the shelter.

Picnic area to be closed
LARNED — The picnic area and comfort station at Fort Larned National Historic Site will be closed Thursday until April 1, 2013 to comply with energy reduction measures.
While the picnic area is closed, facilities are available at the fort in the visitor center. Fort Larned National Historic Site, open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is six miles west of Larned on K-156. Information on visiting is on the internet at www.nps.gov/fols, or by calling 620-285-6911.
