Advance voting set
LARNED — Ruth Searight, Pawnee County clerk and election officer, reports advance voting will be available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pawnee County Courthouse. Anyone in Pawnee County can vote by showing proper identification.
Please enter by the west or south door, and go to the second floor. The last day to advance vote is Monday until noon.
Searight reports more than 600 advance votes have already been cast, breaking the previous record set in 2008.
Fall festival Saturday
LARNED — The annual Larned Downtown Fall Festival is scheduled from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at five local businesses — Country Seasons Flower Shop, 519 Broadway; B&B Quality Meats, 508 Broadway; Dress it Up, 511 Broadway; Tabler Furniture, 401 Broadway; and Sweets and Eats & Lar Shar, 422 Broadway.
The businesses will run special sales and offer holiday treats and eats.
Turkey dinner Sunday
LARNED — The Larned United Methodist Church, 701 Main Street, will sponsor a holiday turkey dinner with the fixings from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Commission to meet
LARNED — The Pawnee County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

Hunters’ Breakfast set Nov. 10
LARNED — A special Hunter’s Breakfast is scheduled from 6 a.m. until the food is gone Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Escue Chapel, 1220 Carroll. The public is welcome.
Veterans Day parade set
LARNED – The Larned American Legion Post 106 will sponsor a Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 10. Entrants will meet at 10:30 a.m. in front of Dwight Shank Motors, 124 Broadway, and the parade will begin at 11 a.m. and proceed north on Broadway.
Also, the post will hold a free breakfast for veterans and their spouses from 7-9 a.m. that day at the post home, 115 E. Seventh.
Shelter hours will change
LARNED — The Pawnee County Humane Society will schedule Tuesday hours from 6 to 8 p.m. instead of Thursday to avoid a conflict with the Humane Society’s meetings on Thursdays. It will free up the education room to allow potential adopters the space and time to get to know the dog or cat they are considering for adoption.
Weekday and Saturday hours remain the same, noon to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday.
The PCHS shelter is located at M5 Road and K-264, cares for stray, abandoned, neglected and surrendered dogs and cats in Larned, Pawnee County and nearby counties. Support is provided by donations and volunteers who care for the animals at the shelter.

Picnic area to be closed
LARNED — The picnic area and comfort station at Fort Larned National Historic Site will be closed Thursday until April 1, 2013 to comply with energy reduction measures.
While the picnic area is closed, facilities are available at the fort in the visitor center. Fort Larned National Historic Site, open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is six miles west of Larned on K-156. Information on visiting is on the internet at www.nps.gov/fols, or by calling 620-285-6911.
