‘Ask the Expert’
set for Monday

LARNED — The featured speakers for Monday’s “Ask The Expert” in conjunction with Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Foundation’s Coffee Chat will be Jan Westfall and Kenya Lear of Harden Hospice speaking on “Hospice 101”.
Coffee Chat is hosted each Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Café by the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Foundation. Coffee Chat is an opportunity for community members to come together to visit and enjoy a treat and a great cup of coffee. Everyone is invited.

Service rep to visit

LARNED — Vincent Scott Dorsey, Veterans’ Service Representative of the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs, Fort Dodge, will be in Larned at the Veterans of Foreign War Building from 10 a.m. to noon, and at the Larned State Hospital in the Reimbursement Office from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. July 11, to assist veterans, their dependents or survivors with questions concerning veterans benefits.

Larned Quilting Bees meet

LARNED — The July 2 meeting of the Quilting Bees was held in the fellowship hall of the Presbyterian Church.  
President Colleen Wolf read a thank you note from Alison Guthrie, Jetmore, in winning the Opportunity Quilt at the recent Quilter’s Celebration.  A thank you goes to all who helped with the well attended event of 80 participants.  A discussion was held about next year’s event in June 2014.
The Pawnee County 4-H Fair is scheduled from July 24-27 with entries in the Quilting Division due on July 24 between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the Larned Community Center. Members are encouraged to enter their projects.  
The next meeting will be on July 16 with the fat quarter drawing to be “Christmas in July.” The guild is invited to bring a sample of a Christmas item or craft for show and tell. Members may elect to come at 5 p.m. to sew with the meeting beginning at 7 p.m.  The public is always invited.
Show and Tell participants were Diann Morell, quilt blocks in purples and cream for the Welcome Inn  Quilt drawing in the fall;  Merlene Baird, “Braid in a Day,” quilt in aqua, browns and blue;  Karen Hadley, quilt top of dogs and cats trimmed in medium blue and burgandy;  Colleen Wolf, “Two is Company,” quilt top in pink, maroon, light green for her granddaughter.


Santa Fe Trail’s Wet/Dry
Chapter to meet July 20

LARNED — Members of the Santa Fe Trail’s Wet and Dry Routes Chapter and guests are invited to the July 20 meeting at 7 p.m. at the Little Red House, 2nd and State Streets in Larned.  
Following an ice cream social, a Traveling Trunks program on “The Little Red House,” will be presented by Ranger Ellen Jones from the Fort Larned National Historic Site assisted by David Clapsaddle.  
Applications for the Faye Anderson Award will be available.  Restrooms are available at the park. Please bring lawn chairs.
