USD 495 to meet
LARNED — The Fort Larned USD 495 school board will meet at 12:15 p.m. Friday at the board of education office.
The proposed 2012-2013 budget will be reviewed and subject to approval of the board. After a roll call, a new president and vice president will be nominated and elected.
Lab day set Friday
LARNED — The monthly Pawnee County health department’s lab day is scheduled Friday. The clinic starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 10 a.m. at the 1st floor of the Pawnee County Courthouse, 715 Broadway. Patients need to fast from midnight the evening before.

Available lab tests are Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, $30; PSA (prostate specific antigen) $20; and HGBA1C $10. Comprehensive Metabolic Panel includes lipid profile, thyroid TSH, electrolytes, liver enzymes, glucose, hemogram (CBC) and other tests.
The health department offers the service in conjunction with Pawnee Valley Community Hospital. The lab days are scheduled the fourth Friday of each month. The lab testing is done by private pay and no insurance is billed.

Burn ban extended
LARNED — The Pawnee County commissioners approved an extension of the county-wide burn bad during Monday’s meeting at the Pawnee County Courthouse. The seven-day extension will run through July 30 when the ban will re reviewed again.
Wet Dry chapter meets
LARNED — Forty five members and guests of the Santa Fe Wet Dry Chapter met at the Fort Larned National Historic Site July 22.
David Clapsaddle spoke on Mail stations noting the mail station at Pawnee Fork followed by discussion and questions on related topics. The first in a series of trading cards are available from Fort Larned on the topic of mail stations.
Following refreshments a short business meeting was held. Topics included the upcoming Santa Fe Trail Rendezvous Sept. 20-22 held in Larned, a historian/scrapbook report by Anita Graves, a prayer quilt for Roger Fox, and the Talking Tombstone project.
Sympathy was extended to the Bill Olsen family (Olsen Ruts) on his recent tragic accident. Rosetta Graff of Kinsley, vice president, conducted the business meeting. The fall meeting will be announced at a later date.
Coffee scheduled
LARNED -- Pawnee County 4-Hers along with the Pawnee County Farm Bureau will sponsor a Larned Chamber of Commerce coffee hour and food sale at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the J.A. Haas Exhibit Building.
4-H and open class foods will be served and the rest will be sold in a bake sale. The Pawnee County Farm Bureau has arranged for State Senator and State Representative candidates to be on hand during the coffee hour.
Library event Friday
LARNED -- The next program for the Jordaan Memorial Library July Lunch Bites is scheduled from 12:10 p.m. until 12:50 p.m. Friday.
Donna Stejskal will present a program on will be on saving and couponing. Lunch will be served. There is a nominal charge for the programs. For information, call the library (620) 285-2876.
Voting available
LARNED -- Advance voting is available for Pawnee County voters at the Pawnee County Courthouse. The primary election is scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 7. Voting is available during business hours at the courthouse’s second floor.
