Garage sale set

LARNED — A garage sale sponsored by Sacred Heart Parish is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at Sacred Heart Auditorium, 12th and State Streets.
Most miscellaneous and household items are take what you want and pay what you think they are worth. Proceeds benefit the poor in Pawnee County.

Local Wet-Dry chapter meets

LARNED — Seventy-seven members and guests attended the spring meeting in Larned at the Sweets and Eats Deli Sunday.  
Following the dinner, a brief business meeting was conducted and included distribution of new rosters and the announcement of the summer meeting for an ice cream social under the trees at the “Little Red House”, 7 p.m. Saturday, July 13.  Bring lawn chairs.
The program by Leo Oliva addressed the Spanish/Mexian influence on the Santa Fe Trail. Subesequently, a special business session was conducted to consider the placement of a monument to Fucando Melgares.  The vote was unanimous to erect such a monument.


Red House presentation
scheduled for April 16

LARNED — Fort Larned National Historic Site will sponsor a Little Red House presentation at 12:20 p.m. April 16 at Larned’s Northside Elementary School.
Ellen Jones, Park Ranger, will speak about the Little Red House to three third-grade classes. A poster contest will be offered to students, who will also be asked to write an invitation to someone to invite to the award ceremony — a parent, grandparent or friend.
The poster and invitation will be judged and three winners will be announced at the award ceremony at a date to be determined. The prize is a $20 gift certificate to the gift shop at the Fort Larned National Historic Site.

Pancake feed set

LARNED — The Larned State Hospital’s Museum sub-committee will sponsor a pancake feed at the LSH auditorium from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3.  The fundraiser will benefitr the Larned State Hospital museum.
Chris Cakes of Wichita will be providing all the pancakes, sausage, and tang a human person can consume. Cost is $8.
The LSH museum will be located on the campus of LSH and will display various memorabilia from its opening in 1914 to present day.
At this time, funding is needed for a variety of projects such as purchasing supplies for preservation of the documents and remodeling costs.
“We look forward to all community members partaking,” said Angela de Rocha, Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services communications director. “We would love to have a person set the Chris Cakes’ pancake-eating record both in the male and female subdivision.”
