MACKSVILLE — Look who just read 1,000 books before kindergarten!
Mateo Galan is well on his way to success in grade school and beyond. He started keeping track of books during the fall of 2023, and he’s steadily been turning in completed logs for stickers and prizes ever since. The pace picked up recently when he sensed the goal line was near — reading the last 200 books in less than two months.
Mateo says that his mom, Denise, and Aunt Selena read to him the most, and his favorite thing about the program was the Smarties!
He’s read a wide variety of books, such as “Goodnight Moon,” “All About Dragons,” “Pete the Cat and the Treasure Map,” and many more. His absolute favorite book characters are Transformers, especially Optimus Prime. (We even ordered some brand-new Transformers books at the library, for him to check out first.)
Mateo wants to be a police officer and football player someday. He’s already building a strong foundation of determination and goal setting that will serve him well, whatever his future holds.
It’s so rewarding when we get to cheer for one generation, and then their kiddos come to the library and we get to cheer for them, as well. Way to go, Mateo!
